1.) I've lost my password, how can I recover it?
Request a new Password to have your password reset and emailed to you.
2.) Why are the names of some favorites / bookmarks changed, and some don't sync?
Zinkmo was designed to work across browsers. This means that requirements
from all supported browsers must be adhered to. Currently this is for both Firefox
and IE. Since IE stores favorites as files on the file system, file name and path
restrictions apply. These restrictions include:
- The full path and filename (all parent folders plus favorite or bookmark name)
must be less than 255 characters. You will be notified of any link exceeding this
length and it must be changed before it will synchronize.
- The following characters are not allowed and will automatically be changed to an html encoded version
of the character. This was done so it will still appear as the original character in your online manager.
\ , / , :, *, ?, ", <, >, |
3.) Why is there a Zinkmo Application and a browser plugin?
The core synchronization routines and server communication are all performed by the
Zinkmo Application. To support multiple browses plugins are created to perform only the browser
specific functionality while communicating with the Zinkmo Application which does the actual synchronization.
Note: The IE plugin is automatically installed with the Zinkmo Application.
4.) It doesn't appear to by syncing?
If there is a problem with synchronization first try resetting your system. This procedure will make it appear as though your
machine has never been syncrhonized so will perform a full synchronization next time rather than an incremental.
IE : Tools / Zinko Favorites, Settings / Admin - select Reset System, Perform Action.
Firefox : Tools / Add-ons, click Zinkmo then Options. Click the Admin tab, select Reset System, Perform Action.
Now try to synchronize. If you are still having problems contact support.
5.) How do I perform a clean reinstall?
To reinstall a completely fresh copy of Zinkmo you will need to remove any user data that was created during
synchronization. The uninstall will remove all traces of the program, but does not remove this user data.
Follow these steps for a clean reinstall:
- Start IE and select Tools / Zinkmo Favorites (do NOT press Synchronize)
- Click Settings / Info
- Open My Computer and browse to the directory listed above under 'UserAppData'
e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\joeuser\Application Data\Red Point\Zinkmo
- Cancel and close Zinkmo
- Click Start / Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs / Zinkmo / Remove
- If you use Firefox, click Tools / Add-ons / Zinkmo / Uninstall
- Delete everything in the UserAppData directory opened above
- Reinstall the Zinkmo Application
- If you use Firefox, reinstall the Firefox Add-on
- Close all browsers (IE and Firefox)
- Reinstall complete
6.) I'm trying to drag a link to a different folder in the online manager but nothing happens?
When dragging a link from the right to a folder on the left make sure to grab the link with the
text, not with the icon. This is due to a bug in IE that we're working on. This limitation
does not exist in Firefox.
7.) Can I move more than one link at the same time?
Yes, provided they are in the same folder. Holding CTRL, click the icons next to the links
you want to move. Let go of CTRL, then click on the text of one of the selected links.
Keeping the mouse button down, drag the links to the new folder and release.
8.) Why don't empty folders appear in the online manager or synchronize?
Currently, folders that have no bookmarks or sub-folders do not synchronize.
9.) Can I recover deleted bookmarks?
Yes. Go to your My page and click Deleted Links at the top.
This wil bring you to the Online Manager but display only your deleted links. Simply right click a link or folder
and choose Restore.
10.) "One or more favorite titles contain trailing spaces"
This messages appears when there are favorites that contain trailing spaces. Since IE requires unique favorite names, and since
spaces are trimmed during synchronization, names that only differ by spaces will collide. If this message appears, the favorite
with the trailing space will not synchronize.
11.) How do I sync my Firefox "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" to my IE "Links" folder?
Since Firefox lets you designate which folder is the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder" you can create a folder named
"Links" in Firefox and set it as the "Bookmark Toolbar Folder". This is done in Firefox
via: Bookmarks / Organize Bookmarks / Edit / Set as Bookmarks Toolbar Folder. This new Firefox "Links" folder
will then sync to the IE Links folder and both toolbar folders should now stay the same.
12.) Why doesn't Firefox Synchronize Automatically?
Firefox must be running for the Firefox autosync to work. If Firefox is not running, it will not autosync. Autosync for IE
will, however, run when IE is not open as long as the Zinkmo icon appears in the system tray.
13.) "Invalid User. Please register at Zinkmo.com and setup your account in Settings/General."
Before using Zinkmo you must register for free on the website to create an account. This account is used by Zinkmo to upload your
bookmarks and favorites. After you have registered enter your username and password into the zinkmo
client before synchronizing.
- IE : Tools / Zinkmo Favorites / Settings / General
- Firefox : Tools / Add-ons / Zinkmo / Options
14.) In Vista, an error occurs when trying to update the application or uninstall it.
The new User Account Control (UAC) feature of Windows Vista may cause an update or uninstall to fail for any build
prior to 3.5.4746. To fix, either disable UAC before running the update or uninstall or follow the instructions below.
To disable UAC go to the Control Panel, then User Accounts, select "Turn User Account Control on or off", then UNcheck
"Use User Account Control ...", click OK, then restart the computer and run the update or uninstall. After installing
version 3.5.4746 or above UAC can be re-enabled and updates can be applied without error.
If you prefer to keep UAC enabled, follow these steps:
- Make sure the Zinkmo application is NOT running.
- Download an updated version of Zinkmo.exe.
- Copy this Zinkmo.exe to the installation folder overwriting the one there.
(by default this folder is: C:\Program Files\Zinkmo\)
- Uninstall Zinkmo via Control Panel, Programs / "Uninstall a program", Zinkmo.
- Download and run the latest Zinkmo Application setup.
- Any future updates can now be applied without error.
15.) "Please update the Zinkmo Client Application."
This notice from Firefox means you need to update the client application that the Firefox add-on uses.
Currently, this is done by running IE, clicking Tools / Zikmo Favorites / Help / Check for Updates.
